Your Jet2 flight is delayed. What happens now?
It’s recommended that you check the flight status online or call the airline to find out how long the delay will be. If the delay is going to be a long one, you may stay at home or your hotel for a while. However, if the delay is short, you may go to the airport as planned. Additionally, in certain circumstances you may be entitled to care from the airline.
Your Jet2 flight is delayed. Should You Wait or Proceed as Planned?
Your Jet2 flight is delayed. What now?
Faced with flight delays, the appropriate action depends on the location of the passenger.
Where are you right now? At your home? Or at the airport?
1. You Are at the Gate, Waiting for Your Flight
If waiting at the gate, you should wait for further updates regarding your flight status.
If there is an information counter nearby, you can inquire there about the delayed flight.
2. You Haven’t Gone Through Airport Security
If waiting to go through security, it is best to check if there are any delays in the check-in time before proceeding further.
If the check-in time has been delayed, it is best to hold off on going through security.
If check-in time has not been changed, you can proceed through security and go to your gate.
Have you already checked in online?
Wait anyway. Don’t proceed until check-in starts.
3. You Are at Home or Hotel
When at home or in a hotel, it is advisable to check if the check-in time has been postponed or not by contacting Jet2 or the airport information desk.
If there is a delay, passengers need not hurry to the airport and can wait where they are. However, if the check-in time is unchanged, they should stick to their original plans and head to the airport as scheduled.
If check-in is delayed — wait at home or hotel.
If check-in is not delayed — go to the airport as planned.
How to Check Jet2 Flight Status Online?
There are three options how you can check your flight’s status:
- Airport website (the airport from which is your flight);
- Your airline’s website (in this case, jet2.com);
- Flight trackers (e.g., flightradar24.com).
Always check flight status before leaving for the airport, to avoid surprised later.
Especially if you have an early morning flight.
How travellers find out about the delay?
- By SMS or email;
- When checking flight status online;
- Already at the airport, or even at the gate.
What If You Are Going to Miss Connecting Flight?
Jet2 is a “point-to-point” air carrier, which means that the airline is not responsible for any travel connections. If a passenger has a connecting flight where one or more flights are with Jet2, it is considered a self-transfer flight. It is not an airline-protected trip. Because Jet2 does not sell protected connecting flights
In this case, if a passenger misses their connection, they will need to book a new flight and pay for it themselves. Jet2 cannot compensate for any expenses or losses incurred as a result of missing subsequent travel connections. It is advised to purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover any unexpected expenses in case of a missed flight.
However, you may be entitled to compensation for that particular disrupted flight. If your Jet2 flight is delayed or cancelled, you may be entitled to Jet2 flight delay compensation or Jet2 flight cancellation compensation, depending on the circumstances. But you won’t get any compensation for your next flight which you have missed.
Passenger Rights: Right to Care and Assistance from Jet2
Passengers experiencing flight delays, cancellations, or denied boarding have the right to certain benefits known as the “right to care.” This means that you have rights to receive certain free services from your airline.
For delays lasting three hours or more during the daytime, Jet2 is obligated to provide complimentary food, beverages, and two forms of communication (such as phone calls, emails, or faxes), typically offered through coupons.
In the case of an overnight delay, Jet2 is required to offer free hotel accommodation, transportation to and from the airport, and one or two meals, all at no cost to the passenger.
If you have not received these entitlements, please reach out to Jet2 for assistance.
Could You Be Eligible for Jet2 Flight Delay Compensation?
Indeed, you might be eligible for Jet2 flight delay compensation.
If your flight has been delayed for over three hours, or if it has been cancelled without at least a 14-day notice, you may qualify for a compensation of up to 600 euros under EU law, unless the delay or cancellation was due to extraordinary circumstances.
This right applies regardless of the ticket price and nationality.
Remember to retain your boarding pass and other travel documents, as you may need them when submitting a compensation claim. If you require assistance with the process, there are services available that can aid you in claiming your compensation from Jet2 – we provide such services (you can use our compensation claim form to make a claim).
Can You Receive Flight Delay Compensation in Case of a Jet2 Strike?
If your Jet2 flight is delayed or cancelled due to a strike, there are two possibilities – either it’s a strike involving Jet2 staff or some other kind of strike.
Generally, if the strike is initiated by airport staff, air traffic control, or if it’s a labor strike that does not directly involve Jet2, you will not be eligible for compensation. This is considered an extraordinary circumstance, and airlines are not usually held responsible.
However, if the strike involves Jet2’s own employees, the airline will likely be required to compensate passengers. Always review the specific circumstances surrounding your delay or cancellation, and verify what you are told by the airline.
