Jet2 overbooking compensation / Jet2 denied boarding compensation.
How to get denied boarding compensation from Jet2? How much can you get?
Here is the thing – very often airlines sell more tickets than there are seats. It’s a very common practice. This is done to ensure there are no empty seats on the plane. But sometimes, all people who have bought tickets show up for the flight. And this is when people get denied boarding. Whenever that happens, airline is obliged to pay EU denied boarding compensation.
There are two ways you can claim this compensation.
1. Jet2 Overbooking Compensation: UK / EU Denied Boarding Regulations
Have you been denied boarding by Jet2?
What can you expect in this kind of situation? What are your rights? Can you get denied boarding compensation from Jet2? When it comes to denied boarding due to overbooking, you can expect to be compensated for the inconvenience.
If you’re flying to or from Europe with Jet2, and you are denied boarding due to overbooking — you are entitled to flight overbooking compensation (EU denied boarding compensation) up to €600. If you are flying from, to or within the UK with Jet2, and you are denied boarding due to airline overbooking— you will entitled to the UK denied boarding compensation up to £520.
This only applies to overbookings.
Keep in mind that European regulations only cover situations when you are denied boarding due to overbooking. If you are denied boarding because your passport is about to expire, or if you don’t have a visa, you won’t get compensation. Also you can’t get compensation if you voluntarily give up your seat.

By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
1.1 Voluntary Denied Boarding
What is voluntary denied boarding?
Yes, there are different types of denied boarding.
Your flight is overbooked if the airline has accepted more bookings than there are actual seats on the plane. What if everyone shows up for their flight?
If this happens, you may be asked to give up your seat in exchange for a new flight and instant compensation. This compensation may be either cash or vouchers. If you accept this offer, it’s called voluntary boarding denial.
In this case, you aren’t entitled to Jet2 denied boarding compensation.
You don’t have to agree to an offer like this.
1.2 Involuntary Denied Boarding
There are situations when passengers don’t have a choice.
There might not be enough volunteers to give up seats. The airline will be bumping passengers off the flight, based on a number of factors (e.g., the last passengers to check in, fare class, etc). This is called involuntarily denied boarding. If it happens to you, you can get denied boarding compensation from Jet2.
What happens in case of involuntary denied boarding?
- The airline must book you on a new flight or give you a full refund for the flight;
- You are entitled to receive care from the airline*;
- You are entitled to Jet2 denied boarding compensation up to €600 per passenger.
Keep in mind that you are entitled to all of these things on the list if you have been denied boarding involuntarily.
* Jet2 must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If you have to wait overnight, Jet2 must provide you with free accommodation and free transfer from and to the airport.
1.3 Right to Care
All passengers travelling with Jet2 have a right to care.
In Europe, you have a right to care if you have to wait for your delayed/new flight. If you have a flight with Jet2, the EU/UK Flight Compensation Regulations apply to most of its flights to and from the European Union and the UK. If you are denied boarding, or your flight has been cancelled or delayed, you have a right to receive care from Jet2. As long as the waiting time is 3 or more hours.
Even if your flight has been disrupted due to extraordinary circumstances.
What does it mean for you as a passenger?
Jet2 must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If you are experiencing a long, overnight delay, the airline has to offer you a free hotel stay and free transfer. Agreeing to these free services doesn’t affect your chances of getting compensation.
Contact the airline if you haven’t been offered anything.

2.1 How Long Does It Take?
It depends on a number of factors.
Is the airline cooperating, or denying the claim? What is the time of the year? Country you were flying from? However, on average the claim process takes some 2-3 months, if all goes well.
If Jet2 isn’t cooperative and refuses to pay compensation, it is necessary to work with a national enforcement body or take the case to court. It will add a couple (and sometimes even a few) months to the process.

3. How Much Can You Claim?
In the EU and the UK compensation amounts are fixed.
In most situations they range from €250 to €600.
Here is how you can calculate Jet2 compensation yourself:
When your destination is within the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1500 – 3500 km
When your destination is outside the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1500 – 3500 km
€600
If the distance of your flight is more than 3500 km
Keep in mind that Jet2 may offer you smaller compensation than the amount you are entitled to. You don’t have to accept anything less. If you are entitled to €600, then ask for €600.
There’s one exception. When the flight distance is 3500+ kilometres and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later than planned, you are entitled only to 50% of the compensation amount (that means €300, not €600).
3.1 Jet2 Voucher Code, Discounts or Cash?
According to the law, compensations have to be paid in cash or by bank transfer.
But not always the airlines pay compensations according to the law. Airlines often take advantage of people’s lack of knowledge and offer vouchers, miles and coupons instead of cash or bank transfer. If you are offered a vouchers instead of money, don’t agree to it.
Jet2, just like most airlines, may initially offer you a voucher refund instead of money. Request a bank transfer instead. Because all airline compensations and refunds in the EU/UK have to be paid in cash or by bank transfer.
