1.4 Missed Connection Flight

In the event that your Jet2 flight is canceled or heavily delayed, and you encounter a missed connection, it is crucial to understand that the airline does not offer assistance in these circumstances.

Jet2 functions as a point-to-point carrier and does not provide protected connecting flights. Thus, if you have arranged a connection with Jet2, it implies that you have booked your flights separately, resulting in a self-transfer scenario. As a result, the passenger is responsible for planning and executing the connection, and Jet2 cannot be held accountable for self-transfer trips.

However, you may be entitled to compensation for that particular disrupted flight. If your Jet2 flight is delayed, you may be entitled to Jet2 flight delay compensation. If your flight has been cancelled, you may get a Jet2 flight cancellation compensation.

But you won’t get any compensation for your next flight which you have missed.

To claim flight cancellation or delay compensation Jet2 owes you, you can contact their customer support center through their website and reference Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 or Regulation UK261.

3.1 What If You Cancel a Jet2 Flight?

Cancelling a Jet2 flight is a straightforward process.

Start by cancelling your booking either through the Jet2 website or by contacting their customer service. After cancellation, a refund request must be made. The refund amount will mostly depend on the conditions of your ticket fare.

Take note, not all tickets are refundable. If you purchased a non-refundable ticket, you might not be entitled to a refund, or substantial cancellation charges may apply. It’s essential to read and understand the fare rules before purchasing your ticket.

Remember that while you might be eligible for a refund, you won’t receive compensation for cancelling your flight. Compensation under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 only applies when the airline cancels the flight, not when the passenger decides to cancel.

In short, while you might receive a refund for your ticket based on fare conditions, you cannot receive compensation for flights cancelled by you.

Do Not Agree to Jet2 Vouchers

When you’re entitled to European flight compensation or a refund from Jet2, it’s vital to remember that you’re not obligated to accept Jet2 vouchers as a form of compensation. You have the right to demand a monetary refund instead.

When dealing with Jet2 customer service, always remember to cite Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 and clearly express that you’re unwilling to accept vouchers as compensation. If the customer service representative does not offer a cash refund, ask to speak with a supervisor or manager.

Indeed, you are entitled to receive your compensation or refund from Jet2 without having to accept vouchers as payment.

Claiming Jet2 Flight Compensation On Your Own

How to claim Jet2 compensation on your own successfully?

When claiming compensation yourself, it’s crucial to stay persistent and understand your rights. Airlines may try to avoid paying compensation by exaggerating problems or labelling technical issues as extraordinary circumstances, even though technical problems are not considered exceptional. Airlines may attempt to substitute compensation with vouchers. Keep in mind that these tactics are commonly used by airlines worldwide, not just Jet2.

In summary, to independently claim Jet2 flight compensation:

  1. Determine if you are entitled to compensation. Use EC Regulation No. 261/2004 as a guide to see if your situation qualifies for either flight compensation or a refund.
  2. Keep all relevant documents. This includes boarding passes, tickets, receipts, and any other evidence of your flight and its associated costs.
  3. Contact Jet2. Submit your claim directly to Jet2’s customer service. This can be done via email, phone, or their website.
  4. Stay persistent. If your initial response is unsatisfactory, stand your ground. Continue to communicate with the airline and reassert your right to compensation.
  5. Reject vouchers. Remember, you are entitled to financial compensation. Do not accept vouchers if they are offered.
  6. Escalate as necessary. If the airline denies your compensation request, think about escalating the matter to a National Enforcement Body or starting a legal case.

By following these steps, you can independently claim Jet2 compensation. However, remember that this process can be complex, and expert help is available if needed.

Court Action – Jet2

If Jet2 rejects your compensation claim, you may consider taking legal action against the airline.

But before going to court, you can first escalate your claim to NEB. This may help you avoid going to court altogether. A decision in your favor by NEB can make your position stronger and increase your chances of getting a positive outcome, even if the airline still refuses to pay compensation.
