Jet2 Lost Baggage Compensation

Jet2 lost baggage compensation.

How much can you claim? What are the rules?

Baggage can sometimes be delayed or lost during travel, which can be frustrating for passengers. It can be disappointing to wait at the baggage carousel only to realize that your suitcase is missing. However, there is some good news: if the airline loses your checked bag, you have the right to file a claim and receive compensation. To find out more about the regulations and the amount of compensation you can receive, please keep reading.

What to Do If Your Luggage Is Lost?

The first step is to report the loss of your baggage.

To do so, complete a lost baggage form available at the baggage reclaim area.

Locate the Baggage Service Office (or Lost and Found Office) usually situated nearby the baggage carousels. Make sure to have your passport, boarding passes and baggage tag readily available. Present these documents to the staff at the Baggage Service Office. It is also helpful to provide a detailed description of your bag’s appearance, including the brand, color, and material. If you have a photo of your luggage on your phone, show it to the staff as well.

After filling out the form, you will be provided with a written confirmation known as the Property Irregularity Report (PIR). This report will include a personal reference number, so ensure that you keep it safe. The staff at the baggage service will also provide you with further instructions on the next steps to take.

In many cases, lost bags are located within 24 hours, although in certain situations it may take longer. Nonetheless, be prepared for a response from Jet2 within approximately a day. Once the airline contacts you, you will need to agree upon the delivery arrangements.

Tracking Your Lost Baggage

To track your lost baggage, use the personal reference number provided on your Property Irregularity Report. Utilize the World Tracer Tool to track your bag online.

Once your baggage is found, Jet2 personnel will contact you.

Jet2 Lost Baggage Compensation

If your baggage is lost, what are your rights?

Does Jet2 provide compensation for lost baggage? Are they responsible for covering expenses if you need to replace important items?

It’s important to confirm whether your baggage is truly lost or just delayed.

Your Baggage is Delayed

If your baggage is delayed, rest assured that it will be delivered to you promptly.

Typically, you can expect to receive your bag within a couple of days.

In the majority of cases, it takes approximately 24 hours to locate a lost bag. However, there are instances where it may take longer. Be prepared to wait at least a day before receiving communication from Jet2. As long as the delay is not your fault, the airline is responsible for covering all expenses related to the transportation of your bag.

To conveniently track the status of your baggage online, you can utilize the World Tracer Tool by entering the provided PIR (Property Irregularity Report) number. This tool enables you to monitor the progress of your bag throughout the entire process.

Reimbursement of Expenses

Experiencing delayed or lost baggage can be quite inconvenient.

In the event that your baggage is delayed or lost, and you find yourself in need of replacing essential items, you are entitled to reimbursement for your expenses, often referred to as delayed baggage compensation. It is important to note that the reimbursement process may take some time, and you will not receive the funds immediately.

Additionally, please keep in mind that you should only aim to replace the necessary items, as you will not be reimbursed for all purchases. Eligible items for reimbursement typically include essentials like underwear, toiletries, essential clothing, and footwear.

Keep in mind, that you may have to provide a proof that what you bought was really a necessity in your particular situation. It is crucial to keep all receipts as evidence when submitting your reimbursement claim.

Is there a time limit? Yes, there is. You have 21 days from the day the airline returns your delayed bag to file a claim for reimbursement. However, we strongly recommend submitting your claim as soon as you receive your bag to avoid forgetting about it.

Lost Baggage Compensation

Jet2 has a period of 21 days to locate and return your baggage.

If your baggage remains delayed for more than 21 days, you are entitled to Jet2 lost baggage compensation, which can amount to a maximum of €1300. To initiate a claim for this compensation, you must contact Jet2, specify the value of your checked baggage, and provide a detailed list of the items contained in your checked bag.

It is important to note that it is not advisable to pack valuables – money, electronics, artwork, jewellery, etc., in your checked baggage. Airlines typically do not assume full responsibility for the loss of such high-value items, but instead provide compensation within the limits defined by the Montreal Convention and the airline’s Conditions of Carriage.

In addition to lost baggage compensation, you can also file a claim for additional expenses incurred due to the baggage delay (as mentioned in the previous text regarding reimbursement of expenses).

If you do not receive communication from Jet2 regarding your claim, it is recommended to proactively contact them to register your Jet2 lost baggage compensation claim. Remember that the compensation should be transferred to your bank account, and you are not obliged to accept Jet2 vouchers.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

Do you need travel insurance to claim Jet2 lost baggage compensation?

No, travel insurance is not required to claim this (or any other) compensation from Jet2.

It’s worth noting that in cases of lost baggage, travelers generally are not at fault and therefore do not need to provide any insurance documentation. The airline is responsible for refunding the value of the lost baggage, thanks to the Montreal Convention.

However, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance before embarking on your journey. Travel insurance offers peace of mind in the event of unexpected incidents such as injury, sickness, or lost or damaged baggage. Often times, travel insurance can be obtained inexpensively or may even be included with your debit or credit card. Before purchasing or traveling with travel insurance, be sure to understand what coverage is provided.

It is easier to claim compensation for delayed or lost baggage through your insurer rather than directly from the airline.

Travel Prepared

It’s always best to be prepared while traveling.

To avoid being without clothes, we recommend packing a few outfits and underwear in your carry-on. Additionally, pack a pair of shoes and travel-sized toiletries in case your checked bag is delayed or lost. Be sure to keep any medications and valuables with you in your cabin bag for easy access.

If your luggage arrives seriously damaged or doesn’t arrive at all, it’s important to report it and file a claim. Submitting claims promptly increases your chances of a successful outcome.

This applies to all Jet2 baggage claims.

What is your experience with baggage delays on Jet2 flights? Has Jet2 ever lost your baggage? Have you ever applied for “Jet2 delayed baggage compensation” (reimbursement of expenses in case of baggage delay)?

Please note that the rules for compensation for delayed or lost baggage with Jet2 are the same as those for other airlines. This is due to the Montreal Convention, which applies to the carriage of baggage on most international flights operated by Jet2 and other airlines globally.
