Jet2 strike compensation in the EU and the UK.
Are you eligible to it? How much can you claim? What are the rules?
If you’ve been affected by a Jet2 strike in the EU or UK, you may be eligible for compensation. Airline strikes are generally not considered extraordinary circumstances, meaning you could be entitled to compensation. These rules apply to all Jet2 passengers and flights. Additionally, if there is a strike among airline staff, Jet2 is required to provide care for affected passengers.
You can claim strike compensation yourself, or work with a flight compensation company.
1. Jet2 Strike Compensation
The rules for receiving Jet2 strike compensation are simple.
Your flight must have been delayed or cancelled altogether:
- To be eligible for Jet2 flight delay compensation, the delay must be at least 3 hours. The delay time should be calculated upon arrival at the destination airport, specifically when the airplane doors open and passengers can disembark.
- To be eligible for Jet2 flight cancellation compensation, it must be a last-minute cancellation due to the airline’s fault. A last-minute flight cancellation is when a flight is cancelled less than 14 days before departure. If the cancellation is the airline’s fault, you may be eligible for Jet2 compensation for the cancellation, in addition to a Jet2 refund for cancellation.
The rules must be followed for all Jet2 flights that depart from, arrive in, or travel within Europe.
Are you going to miss a connecting flight due to delay/cancellation?
Be aware that Jet2 is a “point-to-point” air carrier.
This means that the airline is not responsible for any travel connections.
If you have a connecting flight where one or more flights are with Jet2, it is a self-transfer flight. Jet2 doesn’t sell protected connecting flights. If you miss your connection, you will need to book a new flight (and pay for it yourself).
Jet2 is unable to compensate for any expenses or losses incurred as a result of missing your subsequent travel connections. Therefore, we recommend purchasing a comprehensive travel insurance plan. In the event of a missed flight, your insurer may reimburse you for your ticket.
By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
1.1 Extraordinary Circumstances
Airline staff strikes aren’t considered extraordinary circumstances.
This means you might be entitled to flight compensation if your Jet2 flight is delayed or cancelled due to a staff strike. However, airlines may try to avoid paying compensation by claiming extraordinary circumstances. To avoid this, double-check the reason for flight disruption and ask for proof, or use a flight compensation company to claim compensation on your behalf. We offer such services.
Just fill in our claim form linked on this website, and our partners will do that for you.
Keep in mind that technical issues and staffing shortages also aren’t extraordinary circumstances.
1.2 Right to Care
You may have a right to care from Jet.
The EU and UK laws state that air passengers have the right to receive care from their airline if their flight is disrupted and they have to wait for 3+ hours until their delayed (or replacement) flight departs. Jet2, being an airline operating in Europe, must offer free meals, drinks, two communication attempts, and accommodations (if necessary) to affected passengers.
This applies to all flights operated by Jet2, and accepting these services does not affect the chances of receiving compensation.
2. How to Claim Jet2 Strike Compensation?
How can you claim compensation for a Jet2 strike?
There are two methods to claim compensation for flights in the UK/EU.
- The first method – you can contact Jet2 directly through their website. Use the contact form provided to make a compensation claim. Make sure to refer to the European Flight Compensation Regulations (Regulation (EC) No 261/2004 or Regulation UK261) and have all the necessary information about your flight on hand. Keep in mind that the compensation process may take some time before you receive the funds.
- The second option is legal representation, which is the simpler of the two choices. With this option, a European flight compensation company will handle everything on your behalf. You just need to fill out a compensation claim form, and they will take care of the rest. You won’t need to communicate or negotiate with the airline. We provide this service.
When choosing this option, here is all you will have to do:
And that’s it — the rest is handled by professionals.
* Your boarding pass and passport or ID copy.

2.1 How Long Does It Take?
The process of receiving compensation can take at least 2-3 months or longer, especially if you file a claim independently and the airline chooses to disregard your claim. It is important to keep in mind that the process may take some time, so it is best to be patient and prepare for any potential delays.
3. How Much Can You Claim?
The compensation amounts are fixed and range from €250 to €600.
These amounts are regulated by the EU regulations.
Here is how you can calculate the amount of your Jet2 strike compensation:
When your destination is within the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1500 – 3500 km
When your destination is outside the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1500 – 3500 km
€600
If the distance of your flight is more than 3500 km
3.1 Jet2 Voucher Refund or Cash?
Many airlines offer vouchers instead of compensation.
If you are requesting a compensation from Jet2, you may be offered a Jet2 voucher instead of monetary compensation. Keep in mind that you have the right to decline the voucher and ask for a cash or bank transfer refund. EU/UK law requires that airline compensation and refunds be given in cash or through bank transfer.
4. Jet2 and Regulation UK261
Jet2 is a British low-cost airline.
The EU Flight Compensation Regulation 261/2004 will work only when disrupted Jet2 flight departs from the EU. But you are still protected if your Jet2 flight departs from the UK or any other country.
You are protected under the new law brought into force after Brexit, which is the Regulation UK261. This law is similar to the EU Regulation 261/2004 and entitles you to care and compensation from the airline in certain situations.
The only difference is that the compensation is in Pounds Sterling instead of Euros.
